About Body Nature

The name Body Nature refers to reintroducing the body’s natural function or performance, especially when habitual movements or postures have altered or disrupted it.

Our body function is connected to our overall physical and most importantly – mental wellbeing. One of the Ortho-Bionomy principles is “move towards ease of comfort”. I have found Ortho-Bionomy assists with both physical and mental comfort.

My Pathway of Ortho-Bionomy

Kia ora, my name is Adelaide Douglas. I reside in Tauranga and have been practicing Ortho-Bionomy here since 2009.

I have always had an interest in playing and participating in sport, particularly netball and basketball. It is through sport that I found an interest in physical care and relaxation.

When I was very young I recall my mother applying the technique of massage (using liniment oil) on my brother’s lower calves after a rugby game with positive results afterwards. During my competitive years of sport I would occasionally apply massage techniques to relieve aches for team mates after sports games.

In 2005, I decided to go to New Zealand College of Massage (NZCM) in Wellington and attain the Certificate in Relaxation Massage. One of the courses that impacted upon me the most was Ortho-Bionomy. The course material and exercises introduced “the notion of right relationship with oneself and the client”, that is, understanding the fundamentals that occur in all phases of Ortho-Bionomy relative to accessing a person’s ability to respond.

From that particular course and others, and from personal experience, I believe continual learning through our senses is constant, and understanding human emotional, spiritual, intellectual, energetic and physical connectiveness and/or disconnection, is a lifelong pathway.

“I have come to view Ortho-Bionomy as a practice that facilitates varying communication forms – whereby the physical, intellectual, energetic and spiritual planes of individuals are transformed, shifted and awoken”.
